DUCK, N.C. (February 14, 2006) – The Sanderling Resort & Spa, the only full-service resort in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, today announces the hiring of two veteran resort directors as part its continued effort to elevate the property to a new level of luxury. Chad New joins The Sanderling as Director of Sales and Marketing and Mark Amoriello comes to the resort as Spa Director.
Chad New has more than 22 years experience in hospitality marketing and sales, specializing in beachfront properties that offer world-class spa and golf experiences. He will be responsible for driving the success of The Sanderling through year-round group and catering sales, targeting new markets and attracting new customers. New will ensure The Sanderling is marketed as an award-winning, unique experience destination as he oversees the sales teams responsible for booking corporate meetings, group vacations and social functions.
Before coming to The Sanderling, New was the director of sales at the four-star Ballantyne Resort in Charlotte, N.C. He was also the senior sales manager at the Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa in Fort Myers, Fla. Prior to Sanibel, New was the senior sales manager at the Grand Wailea in Maui, Hawaii, the number-one rated spa in world from 1999 to 2001. He started his hospitality career as a sales manager at the Turtle Bay Hilton on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, before working for 10 years as the corporate meeting planner for Advanced Micro Devices in Austin, Texas.
Mark Amoriello has more than a decade of experience working with four- and five-star spas. As artistic and creative director for The Sanderling Spa, he will focus on creating a four-star environment, one that reflects the resort’s laid-back, casually elegant feel. This effort will include updating the spa’s services, amenities, treatments and changing areas, and revising the menu of products and services to reflect a more indigenous experience. Amoriello will place greater emphasis on staff education to ensure the latest techniques are being offered and focus on developing customized, results-oriented programs for guests.
Amoriello was most recently director of the Grotto Spa at the Tigh-na-Mara Resort & Spa in Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where he succeed in making the Grotto the largest spa in Canada. Prior to that, he transformed several California spas, including those at the Four Seasons Resort in Santa Barbara and the Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Laguna Beach. Amoriello, a licensed cosmetologist and massage therapist, started his career in 1996 in Tidewater, Va., where he successfully opened two day spas.
